Evgeny

There's a 1960s comedy movie about a supposed Soviet invasion of the USA that occasionally pops up on late night TV.  It’s called “The Russians are coming! The Russians are coming!” and, although it may have taken them fifty years to do so, in many parts of the world it seems that they finally are.

Go, for instance, to the traditional paradise for lovers of Asian young men, Thailand, and these days you’re far more likely to be greeted in the boy bars by a bass Moscovite’s “Zdrazvite!” than a cheery New Yorker’s “Hey, buddy!” or a Londoner’s “Watcher, mate!”

And the same’s now true of many parts of Europe where cash-strapped American gap year students are increasingly being replaced by the likes of Maya from Moscow and - far more attractive! - Vitaly from Vladivostok. 

Although we would really have liked this week’s new HMBoy to be equally alliterative, Evgeny hails not from Ekaterinburg but from the chilly Siberian city of Omsk - at least, we assume that it’s chilly there, because climate and the weather was clearly a topic that our youngster hadn’t yet covered in his English classes at school so he wasn't actually able to tell us.

Thank goodness, however, that he had covered economics in the classroom and so he knew, as a result, that when he was running out of cash the best way to make some in a hurry was to answer our local photographer’s ad for models.

As you can see, Evgeny turned out to be a very fine example of the best that his country has to offer.

And, as a real bonus, he was also a natural in front of the camera.

In fact, we’re sure that by the time you reach the end of his stimulating set of photographs and see him pumping out a nice dollop of youthful slavonic Russian goo all over his belly and chest,  you’ll agree that Evgeny's giving us a far more appealing version of “The Russians are coming! The Russians are coming!” than any old film ever did...
